Workshop #4: Natural Dyes with Krissy Morrison

the wonderful and extremely proficient Krissy Morrison leading the class

Krissy's work and line. Check it out here

The fourth (and last) of the Midsummer Nights Crafts workshops was sensational! Krissy Morrison of Colour Plantae taught this full attendance class with grace and humor, and after a quick lecture about natural foraging of materials to create dyes from such as walnuts, sourgrass and elderberries, she encouraged the class to get jump right in to get their hands dirty and to start working away! I was incredibly impressed with all the beautiful patterns everyone created, and after a practice session, everyone got to make a large and beautiful handkerchief that she had pre-prepped for everyone. They came out stunning! Everyone got really into it and there was an air of magic and fun all around our space. Thank you Krissy for making the last of the workshops a superlative note to end on! Thank you Shelter Half for not only creating the space for us to work in but also for being so fostering of the arts and crafts!

Hanging String Gardens (Kokedamas)!

The magic of the summer heat and long nights was felt during the third workshop of the Midsummer Nights Crafts: Hanging String Gardens, also known as kokedama in Japanese. We had so much fun! After quick introductions and an even quicker lecture, everyone rolled up their sleeves and just went for it. Dirt, ferns, moss, twine, more dirt, water and still more dirt was everywhere! I quickly caught on that everyone was breezing through the workshop adeptly and with great conversations and laughs. We ate a buttery summer berry cake and sipped on prosecco and listened to old records. It was pure enchantment! Thank you so much Stephanie, Sara, Hannah, Ken, Virginie, mom (!) Kelly C., Stefani, Kelly, Angie and Ava! You were such a radiant class! And a heartfelt *thank you* Shelter Half.

Workshop #2: Indigo Dye with Britt Browne

the ever-so-lovely Britt and her new dog, Sampson

OK so I have to share with you just how AMAZING Britt Browne's indigo dye workshop was this past Thursday! Seriously: A SUCCESS WOOOO! It was the second workshop of the Midsummer Nights Crafts series and it was spectacular! We had over-spillage in attendance and magically we were able to accommodate everyone. After a quick lecture by Britt everyone was incredibly anxious to get their hands dirty and start dyeing! We had some incredibly good tunes playing thanks to the ample records to choose from, beers & prosecco & sparkling lemonade to sip on and a freshly baked summer cake to eat. What started off a bit modestly turned into people taking their pants & shoes off to throw into the indigo dye vat! It was addicting. It was also pure magic. Thanks to everyone who came and to the incredible Britt who showed everyone what a wonderful good time is all about! You're gonna want to check out more HERE!

You can purchase some of Britt's indigo starters here and extract your own indigo!
